On March 13, Sunday, we celebrated the 18th edition of the Spring Race with good weather to run, cool and windless, which has surely helped the 1,016 runners who have reached the finish line.
The most remarkable note is the celebration of our career after 2 years of absence due to covid. This was the first race that was canceled in 2020, with 4 days to go. Since then we have been attentive to the evolution of the pandemic, looking for possible dates that would allow us to celebrate it with guarantees. Finally we have gone to 2 years of absence, an eternity.
This year's edition has been carried out with the necessary anticovid measures, seeking to avoid crowds and minimizing the risk of contagion by wearing the mask at all times except during the race. This has forced us to eliminate our traditional supply of fruit, move the slogan and other minor changes. We are sure that next year we will be able to organize a 100% race, we are waiting for you!
Due to the state of the Metro works in Donostia and its effect on the route, this year the route was not approved. In the next few years we hope that things will improve and we can officially certify our distance of 10,000 meters. In any case, the measurement has been made with the usual parameters, so we believe that the measurement this year also has a very high precision.
The first athlete to reach the finish line was Aitor Etxeberria from Real Sociedad, with an impressive time of 30:47, just 5 seconds behind Kamel Ziani's record in 2009, followed by Asier Martínez (31:56) and Roberto Carlos Trejo ( 31:59).
In the women's category, Nerea Egia won with a time of 38:22, followed by Itziar Ibarbia (39:11) and Alicia Vestas (39:36).
Female participation was 336 women, which represented 33% of the total number of athletes, 3 points more than in the previous edition. At this rate, there are only 5 editions left to reach 50/50!!
All food left over from the aid stations was donated to the Gipuzkoa Food Bank.
We appreciate the participation of all the athletes and we encourage them to continue visiting us every year on the second Sunday of March to continue being an essential event on the Gipuzkoan racing calendar.
We share with all of you the classifications and soon the photos taken by our indefatigable Luis Peralta (www.luisperaltafoto.com). Great job. Eskerrik asko!!!
